Homeopathy is a system of medicine developed in Germany over 200 years ago by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. It is primarily based on the law of similars, ‘like cures like’, which means, a substance capable of producing symptoms in a healthy person can cure similar symptoms in a sick person when taken in minute doses.
Homeopathy treats each person as a unique individual with the aim of stimulating their own healing ability. A Homeopath selects the most appropriate medicine based on the individual's specific symptoms and personal level of health.
It is a holistic medicine, which means that it aims to treat the person rather than only his or her symptoms. It focuses on building health and strengthening the immune system, with individualised carefully selected remedies which assist the person to heal themselves and trigger the body’s natural defences. Homeopathy does not treat 'diseases' - it treats the whole person, mind & body.
Remedies are made from small amounts of natural substances such as plants and minerals and prepared or 'potentised' using a process of repeated dilution and succussion.
Homeopathic remedies can be used effectively by everyone, from babies and children to adults, including during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. When prescribed appropriately, they are safe, non-toxic and non-addictive. They can be taken alongside drugs prescribed by your doctor and will not interfere with their beneficial action.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), Homeopathy is used by over 200 million people worldwide and is often integrated with other natural medicines and alongside conventional medication to help support better health.
Homeopathic medicines are made in licensed laboratories under strict controls and can be bought over the counter or via online Homeopathic pharmacies.
